VTCA: Angelo Emmanuel, Michael Pratt named in Team of the Week

A Second XI opener has rocketed into our VTCA Team of the Week after a stunning batting display while several other centurions made the list. See who made it.

The return of two-day cricket for the first time in almost three years was welcomed right across the Victorian Turf Cricket Association.

On Saturday, it meant for some big scores right across the competition.

Here are the top performers from the weekend’s games.

1. JACK IND (Newport Digman Second XI)

While some openers might have struggled in the heat and against the red ball, Ind thrived with a powerful performance against Keilor Park. He hit 150 runs including 22 boundaries to help his side post 4-327 before it eventually declared. Ind was the top run scorer among all players.

2. SAM YOUNGHUSBAND (Moonee Valley)

The Moonee Valley gun is quickly becoming a regular feature in the VTCA Team of the Week. He scored a brilliant unbeaten century on the first day of his side’s clash with Williamstown Colts.

3. THIWANKA KEKULAWALA (Melton South)

Has been in brilliant form all season long and on Saturday registered his third century with 121 runs against Seabrook.

4. ANGELO EMMANUEL (Deer Park)

Finished with 120 on the opening day of his side’s clash with St Albans sharing a potentially match winning partnership with Roshon Primus who also makes this week’s team.

5. MALITH COORAY (Keilor)

Put the Druids’ bowlers to the sword with a devastating batting display on Saturday. Cooray finished with 100 runs from 94 balls to help Keilor reach 8-324 at stumps.

6. ROSHON PRIMUS (Deer Park)

Joins his Deer Park teammate in the squad after a brilliant performance with the bat, also scoring 120.

7. TRENT JONES (West Newport)

The West Newport skipper was in fine form after he finished on 106 not out on day one of his side’s clash with Williamstown CYMS. Jones face 1578 balls in an innings which included 13 boundaries.

8. HARVINDER SINGH (Point Cook)

The Warriors star tore through Grand United’s middle order with a brilliant display of bowling finishing with 5-18 from 15 overs including seven maidens.

9. DILBAG SINGH (Roxburgh Park)

Singh has his side right in the contest against Maribyrnong Park St Mary’s after taking 5-11 in five overs. He also managed to take a catch.

10. AKILA ISHANKA (St Andrews Footscray)

Ishanka took a liking to the red ball with his best bowling display of the season after taking 5-19 in 16 overs on day one against Moonee Ponds.

11. MICHAEL PRATT (West Coburg)

The Redbacks gun had the best figures of any First XI cricketer at the weekend after finishing with 6-21 as his side rolled Tullamarine for just 41.
