A shot at grand final redemption beckons for Doutta Stars after a classy hundred from opener Hamish Moore led the club to a seven-wicket triumph over Sunshine United on Sunday.

Defeated by Yarraville Club in last season’s grand final, the Stars will take on either local rival Strathmore or Keilor in the decider, which starts this weekend.

“The target was always to win (the premiership). But we didn’t want to look too far ahead,” captain-coach Brenton Parchment said.

“Now that we are in the granny, we just have to stick to our game plan and what has worked well for us throughout the season.

“Even if we had won (last year) I think we would be just as motivated. We want to win, that’s it.

“There’s no extra motivation needed.”

An unbroken 152-run partnership between opener Moore and Parchment decided the semi-final after Doutta Stars were reeling at 3-1 in the final overs of day one.

“We knew we just needed to hang in there,” Parchment said.

“It was only six overs, so we couldn’t have done much damage in terms of batting, but we could definitely have gone a long way to losing the game.

“It was about keeping a calm head and seeing what tomorrow brought us.”

Left-handed opener Moore played with supreme control on the second day, punching gaps with precision and defending resolutely.

He finished unbeaten on 101, withstanding the carnage on Saturday to produce a matchwinning century and reach triple figures for the fourth time in a campaign which has yielded 731 runs.

“He’s been terrific for us throughout the year and it’s good to see him get a hundred,” Parchment said.

“I’m just hoping we have got another couple up our sleeves.”

Parchment was 43 not out when the winning runs were struck, content with playing the support act to Moore.

The Tigers managed 152 on day one and two wickets from opening bowler Michael Glowacki and one from Thomas O’Brien had the match finely balanced at stumps as the hosts battled to 3-13.

Jeremy Peacock (4-25), Parchment (3-29) and Patrick Willach (2-26) were the best of the Stars’ bowlers.

Doutta Stars appeared on course for victory in last summer’s final when they posted 222, but a century from Will Sheridan denied the club premiership glory.
