AT TIMES it resembled a mud wrestle more than a football match.
But four points were still on offer and Romsey was not about to let them slip through its hands.
A week after suffering their second loss of the season to Riddell, the Redbacks got back on the winners’ list with a 9.5 (59) to 6.10 (46) triumph over fellow premiership contender Macedon on Saturday.
It was not pretty viewing, the two sides managing just six goals between them in the opening half.
But a five-goal-to-two third term put the visitors on their way to victory at Tony Clarke Reserve.
“As everyone says, sometimes you just have a bad day. Ours was against Riddell,” Romsey president Wayne Milburn said.
“But we bounced back really well on Saturday right from the first bounce.
“Like everyone, they (Macedon) have got injuries.
“We had six players out as well but we threw our young blokes in to see how they went and they performed.”
Brothers Matthew and Christopher Burkett were “sensational” for the Redbacks, two of few players able to show some class in the difficult playing conditions.
Benjamin Way also impressed in the midfield while Phil Lobb finished with four goals up forward.
Romsey remains second on the ladder behind Rupertwood with four rounds remaining.
In other results on Saturday, Rupo had 12 individual goalkickers in a 98-point thumping of Lancefield.
Niall McGovern was named the winners’ best.
Sunbury Kangaroos’ hopes of playing finals further faded as they fell to Diggers Rest by 43 points, while Broadford overcame Wallan by nine points.
Elsewhere, Riddell extended its winning run to seven games with a 63-point win over Melton Centrals and Woodend-Hesket overcame a 14-point deficit at three-quarter time to knock off Rockbank by 14 points.
