Mason Redman plays as Anthony Fawcus hits third ton for Gladstone Park

An Essendon defender’s guest T20 appearance was upstaged as his Gladstone Park teammate hit a third straight ton.

Essendon defender Mason Redman was meant to be the star attraction in a guest appearance for Gladstone Park on Tuesday night.

But the attention quickly turned to new teammate Anthony Fawcus who hit his third straight century as his side eased to victory in the North West Metropolitan Cricket Association T20 competition against Kealba-Green Gully.

Fawcus was dismissed for 101 in an innings which included 12 sixes as the home side reached 5-232 from its 20 overs.

His performance came off the back of two centuries on the weekend of January 22 and 23.

The second of those came in the Sunday competition saw Fawcus hit 103 runs from just 23 deliveries.

Gladstone Park president Sam Anastasiou said Tuesday night’s innings was among one of the best he had seen.

It included a 164-run partnership with Jayke Lloyd-Roeby, who scored 60.

“Everything Anthony is hitting at the moment is just so clean,” he said.

“It was magnificent to see him continue on his fantastic form. He was hitting the ball to all parts of the ground.

“Some of the shots were taking one bounce over fences into the backyards of neighbouring houses which are about 30 metres from the boundary.

“When someone is batting like this it’s something you can just sit back and enjoy.

“It’s funny to think he didn’t get a bat in Saturday’s game either because we’ve been mixing up our batting order.”

Redman wasn’t as successful with the bat dismissed for just one.

But he turned it around with the ball finishing with 2-20 from four overs.

“We’re very thankful to Mason for giving up his time — he’s a ripping bloke,” Anastasiou said.

“Having him down definitely helped get a few more people down and the atmosphere was fantastic.”

Gladstone Park now have won two of its three games in the T20 competition with Anastasiou remaining hopeful his side can qualify for the finals.

The club also sits four games clear on top of the Vic Kyte Shield with a record of nine wins and one draw from 10 games.

ST FRANCIS DE SALES OPENER ENJOYS A BIG NIGHT

A shift to the top of the order worked wonders for St Francis de Sales’ Kane O’Halloran on Tuesday night as he hit a century to guide his side to a four-wicket win over Genesis.

After being set 217 for victory, O’Halloran — who has predominantly batted in the lower order this season, struck 100 runs from 51 balls as the home side reached 6-219 from 18.3 overs.

He was well supported by Blake McKinnon who struck the ball equally as effective with 51 runs from 16 balls.
