IT TOOK less than a month for Luke Beattie to convince Kyneton he should be the club’s next senior coach.
The Tigers unveiled Beattie as their senior coach for the next two years on Monday, rubberstamping his appointment after the club’s return to Bendigo Football League finals for the first time since 2003 was confirmed.
Kyneton president Rob Waters said Beattie had thrived since being handed the interim coaching post after Mark Adamson was axed in July.
“The finals is great for us and it’s been a long time coming,” Waters said.
“The coaching position in a country footy club is the most important appointment you can make.
“We think Luke is absolutely the right man for us.”
Beattie, a Kyneton premiership player, has previously held coaching roles at Sunbury and Daylesford.
“It would be great if we had a successful coach for years and years,” Waters said.
“It brings stability and so many things. I hope Luke is with us for years.
“It wasn’t (going to be) easy for him or whoever came in under those circumstances, but he has hit the ground running.”
The Tigers broke a 12-year finals drought by accounting for Maryborough in the final round of the home-and-away season on Saturday.
Kyneton meets Eaglehawk in an elimination final on Sunday at Queen Elizabeth Oval.
