Stunning Big V buzzer beater

Sunbury’s Jeremy Wragg is going viral.

The Jets superstar hit a stunning beater to lead his side to a thrilling one-point Big V win over Wyndham on Saturday night.

In the process it ended Wyndham’s 10-game unbeaten run to start the Championship Men’s season leaving the two sides now separated by only percentage with a 10-1 record.

Remarkably it was also Wragg’s first made shot of the game after he missed his first five.

Sunbury coach John White said the moment couldn’t have come to a better player who battled a “significant” back injury to start the season.

“It was really timely,” White laughed.

“The shot was a good way for Jeremy to make up for the missed switch on the previous possession which he was very aware of.

“It’s nice for him to have a big moment because he has been through a lot and is a talented player for us.

“He had been a little bit out of touch so hopefully this can be a platform for him to keep building into the season.”

Star import Ish Sanders was again in the thick of the action finishing with 33 points on 11-23 shooting, five rebounds and two assists in another big performance.

On current pace he looms as one of the favourites for the competition’s MVP award at the end of the season.

Sanders is the leading scorer in the competition with an average of 26.8 points per game.

“He came in to do a job and he’s doing that at the moment,” White said.

“His workrate has been the most impressive thing about him. He is doing everything he needs to off the court to perform at that level.

“But it’s been terrific to see the rest of the guys latching onto his energy and doing their own work behind the scenes.

“It’s helped us be in the position we are.”

The weekend’s victory sets up a thrilling third and final meeting with Wyndham later in the season with both sides now having won a game apiece.

“Getting the win is important for our confidence,” White said.

“We know if we engage for 40 minutes, we can give any team a shake. We’re sitting where we were aiming to be at the moment but we know there’s still a lot of hard work to do.

“We believe we’ve got another level to go to.”

Sunbury rounded out its weekend with a six-point win over McKinnon on Sunday.
