Trailing Golden Square by six points at halftime, the home team surged to a nine-point lead before sending the Kyneton Showgrounds crowd into raptures with a seven-goal final quarter to win 15.14 (104) to 7.18 (60).

“It means everything,” coach Luke Beattie said.

“This isn’t just for me or the players, it’s the community and the club.

“The rebuild process has been extremely exhausting and challenging. To get to this position in the last five or six years is a remarkable feat. It has come on the back of hundreds and hundreds of community hours.

“It is a great reflection on all the effort put in to get this outcome.”

Acknowledging there was much yet to play for, Beattie said it was important to “celebrate the moments and the effort that got us to this point”.

Combining with the A reserve netballers and the reserves football team making its first finals appearance in 18 years, it is a time of excitement at Kyneton.

“Now we will move forward with the plan and consider how we approach finals,” Beattie said.

Kyneton will play Eaglehawk in the qualifying final at QEO on Saturday.

“It’s a great game to move into finals on,” Beattie said.

“We were heavily tested by a team with a lot on the line and to finish a game as strongly as we did … was really pleasing.”

In further encouragement, Daniel Davie (four goals), skipper Josh Govan, Nick Brazil and ruckman Jordan Mangan returned to the side, while Rhys Magin (neck), Taylor Kelly (adductor) and Bryce Hinneberg (knee) are available for selection.
