FORGET about romance and roses on Valentine’s Day, prepare to meet your purrfect match — or pawfect companion — instead.

The Second Chance Animal Rescue (SCAR) will hold a Valentine Adoption Day this Saturday, February 11, to help members of the community meet their next best furry friend.

The shelter’s founder and managing director Maria Debattisa said the event, from 10am to 4pm, would have a “Love is in the air” theme.

“What better way to find a loving furry companion than to adopt from your local shelter on the ultimate day of love,” she said.

“People are welcome to come down on the day and speak to our team while meeting our dogs and cats looking for new homes.”

Ms Debattisa said anyone interested in adopting on the day could visit the SCAR website to view profiles of animals that were available and to email an adoption application through.

“This will allow us to make appointments for people to meet certain animals at our shelter, that may otherwise be in our foster care system,” she said.

“Walk-ins are very welcome on the day too.”

Ms Debattisa said the adoption fees on the day would vary from animal to animal, but would cover all of the medical work, behavioural assessments and training the dog or cat had experienced while in SCAR’s care.

She said any profits made from adoption fees would go towards the care of other animals at the shelter.

LATER IN THE MONTH

SCAR will be taking part in Random Act of Kindness Day celebrated around the world on February 17.

Volunteers and supporters charity will join in for a week of caring acts to mark the day.

The shelter’s founder and managing director Maria Debattista said they were also encouraging the general public to join in.

Ms Debattista said the thoughtful deeds which SCAR supporters were planning included baking bone-shaped biscuits for their co-workers and handing out dog treats at parks.

Ms Debattista said that adopting a rescued animal was another way to demonstrate care.

“Adopting an animal from a shelter is the ultimate act of kindness — they will thank you in many ways for the rest of their lives,” she said.

“And you never know, they might just save you too.”
