A 32-year-old Roxburgh Park man arrested after a dramatic siege at his family home on Monday has been denied bail.

Evan Zakariya appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday on charges of possessing a firearm, ammunition cartridges as well as meth and cocaine, which were allegedly found in his bedroom after the accused trying to make an escape onto his roof.

Police alleged that further searches of the house, which is owned by Mr Zakariya’s brother, revealed more than 1.7kg of a marijuana and a handgun concealed behind the skirting of the shed.

Mr Zakariya did not enter a plea.

Documents tendered by the court reveal that police, who were conducting a Firearm Prohibition Order compliance check, set up a cordon around the Roxburgh Park home before they were granted entry by the accused’s brother.

Police said Mr Zakariya had locked himself in his upstairs bedroom and tried to escape through the window and onto the roof once police began to test the door, but surrendered when he found himself to be surrounded.

Mr Zakariya’s black Nike Air satchel was subsequently seized by police, who allege they found 7.1 grams of meth, cocaine and marijuana as well as spent ammunition shells.

Police then turned their attention to Mr Zakariya’s brother, who owns the house, and headed for the shed.

Concealed behind the skirting board of the garage police said they found a firearm wrapped in black material and small-calibre ammunition.

Police also alleged that they found shotgun cartridges and other calibre ammunition hidden within a set of speakers.

In a black Mercedes police alleged that they found more than 1.7kg of marijuana and more than 200 rounds of ammunition.

Police said that the brother was charged with various drug offences and was yet to enter a plea.
