At the age of five, Brunswick’s Kitty Masters declared to her father Colin that she wanted to be a professional soccer player.
Eight years later, Mr Masters laughs when he recalls telling her how much work would be required and her immediate determination to do that work.
“All up, she probably puts in about 25 hours a week,” he said.
“That includes game day, training and just dribbling the ball around the house.
“We’re also in the process of putting in artificial turf in the backyard, she just loves it.”
Kitty, 13, will represent Victoria at a national under-14 girls carnival from July 8.
She will be joined in the squad byIsabella Accardo, 13, of Brunswick West, and Brunswick East’s Zoe Bennett, who is 14.
Kitty said from the moment she joined her brother Max in a futsal clinic at age three, her competitiveness drove her on the field.
“The thought that I could do what I love and get out every day and kick the ball around is amazing,” she said.
“I love football culture and the group of people that play it.”
