PETstock Assist charity and events co-ordinator Jess Guilfoyle said this year’s adoption day would encourage encouraging people to adopt different kinds of animals and breeds.

“We want people to make considered and sustainable choices, and to give rescue pets a chance at a better life,” she said.

“We’re encouraging all animal lovers to … meet pets in need, educate themselves on adoption and reconsider any biases they may have towards rescue animals.”

Dog lovers are also invited to add a new member to their family.

Olympian Giaan Rooney said she’d always been a huge advocate of adopting rescues.

“Despite being one leg short, Lester was the perfect dog … he gave me so much and wanted so little in return.”
