VICROADS will be keeping a watchful eye on truck drivers through new traffic camera and sensor technology in Yarraville.
The infra-red technology, which will monitor drivers on Hyde St at two locations, near York and Berry streets, aims to catch trucks travelling down the street during curfew times.
The existing Hyde St truck curfew has been lifted from 6am until 8pm between Somerville Rd and Leek St due to West Gate Tunnel Project work, giving northbound trucks access to the street during the day.

However, trucks without a local origin or destination remain barred in the evening.
West Gate Tunnel Project spokeswoman Kim Payne said the technology would use cameras and sensors that identified vehicle size.
“We want to make sure trucks are sticking to the detour route,” she said.
Hyde St is currently being used as a truck detour due to the closure of Whitehall St.
Maribyrnong Truck Action Group president Samantha McArthur welcomed the technology in the hope it would bring greater enforcement of the truck curfews.
“This kind of technology is the only way that the community will ever have faith in the curfews actually doing their job,” she said.
The Leader previously reported community outrage over the temporary removal of the Hyde St truck ban.
Residents told the Leader they were being kept awake at night due to the increased noise.
