A drug dealer was seen travelling around with a smashed windscreen weeks before he was caught passed out at a bus stop with a huge drug stash on him.

Nadim Ghattas was sentenced to 60 days’ jail and a two-year community corrections order before Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, November 5, having pleaded guilty to charges including drug trafficking.

Police found the 43-year-old asleep at a Thomastown bus stop on September 28 with almost 460g of GHB in a water bottle by his feet.

The court heard Ghattas appeared heavily drug-affected when he was woken and was found to have 1.63g methamphetamine and an ice pipe in his pocket.

Weeks earlier, on September 2, Ghattas had come to the attention of police after they saw him travelling on High St, Epping in a car with a smashed windscreen about 4pm.

Police then found the Mill Park man had a flick knife in his pocket, methamphetamine on him and deal bags in the car.

Ghattas had also been caught with methamphetamine and GHB on him when he was pulled over while driving in Meadow Heights on August 23.

Police saw him throw a syringe onto the road when he was driving a motorcycle on a disqualified licence in Thomastown on June 28.

He’d also been caught driving while disqualified in Dallas on June 17, and had had his car impounded.

Lawyer Peter Shumpeter said Ghattas had been a complaints manager at Telstra until 2017 after moving to Australia from Egypt.

He said his client had then begun using drugs and committing crimes, and had suffered the end of his relationship and loss of his two houses.

Magistrate Denise Livingstone noted Ghattas had already served 39 days’ jail and also fined him $500.
