Moonee Ponds, Essendon shops targeted in burglaries

THREE men armed with a grinder have robbed an Essendon fast-food restaurant and a Moonee Ponds homewares store of cash and EFTPOS machines, and may be behind another three burglaries in the same area.

THREE men armed with a grinder have robbed an Essendon fast-food restaurant and a Moonee Ponds homewares store of cash and EFTPOS machines.

Police believe two men broke into a Puckle St homewares store about 5.45am on Saturday, January 6, where they stole money and EFTPOS machines.

About 6pm that night, one of the men involved in the homewares burglary broke into a fast-food store in Napier St in Essendon.

Victoria Police spokeswoman Leading Senior Constable Lee Thomson said that man appeared to be with a different male to the previous burglary, and a grinder that was carried in the first burglary was used in the second.

A large amount of money was stolen from the store.

Detectives believe the trio was travelling in a silver late-model Hyundai 120 five-door hatchback.

It is believed the same trio may have committed three other burglaries in Puckle St, Moonee Ponds, two days later.

Detectives have released images and CCTV of men they believe may be able to help with their inquiries.

One man is described as being of medium build, and was wearing a grey-coloured hooded jumper with white writing down the left sleeve, grey tracksuit pants and black casual shoes.

He was carrying a grinder and wearing gloves.

The second man is perceived to be African in appearance, slim, with short black hair.

He was wearing a dark-coloured hooded jacket, black tracksuit pants with white stripes and grey casual shoes, and was carrying a blue backpack.

The third man was perceived to be caucasian, medium build, with short dark hair.

He was wearing a dark-coloured hooded jumper, blue bandana, grey shorts and black shoes.

He was seen carrying what appeared to be the same blue backpack seen earlier.
