Melbourne’s best hot chips in the west as chosen by nova100

A chicken shop in the city’s west may claim the title of Melbourne’s best hot chips. Here’s where you’ll find the finest fries on offer.

When it comes to hunting out the best hot chips it seems the city’s west is where it’s at.

McManos Chicken Bar in Seddon has been voted the top place in Melbourne to buy hot chips by a nova100 poll.

McManos owner Dave Chen opened the takeaway joint 18 years ago and said crinkle cut was one of the secrets to his success.

“I tried changing them to straight cut years ago and everyone said no, no, no. So I’ve never changed them again,” he said.

But that’s the only secret the savvy business owner would give.

“It’s a special recipe,” he said.

Mr Chen said he felt great when he heard he had the best chips in the city.

He’s since been frying up boxes of the salty, crunchy treat for new customers who have come from all over Melbourne just to try them.

He thanked the Seddon community for supporting his business throughout the years — even when he tried to go straight.

“Hopefully it means I’ll still be around for another few years,” he said.

nova100 posted its top five list last week and said the McManos chips would “transport you back to the ’80s”.

Biggie Smalls in Collingwood and 8Bit in Footscray also made the list.
