A HIGH-RANKING councillor in Melbourne’s west has shared an anonymous rape threat she received via text — and not for the first time, she says.
Maribyrnong City Council deputy mayor Sarah Carter went public with the partially revealed message, which said: “I see you on Victoria Street. I am going to rape you tonight.”
The River Ward representative, who has been on council since 2008, said she was hopeful that speaking out would help authorities find the anonymous sender.
“[I’m] rattled but also quite angry because this isn’t the first time and it’s frustrating more than anything that we do have to be subjected to this behaviour and to these threats of violence,” Ms Carter told Nine News.
Police are investigating the threat.
Ms Carter was selected as deputy mayor last month and one was of two women to take top posts with Catherine Cumming elected unopposed as mayor. She also served as mayor from 2010 to 2011.
