The Ranges Rescue sewing group has been working tirelessly to make scrubs for medical workers as they work on the frontline of a worldwide pandemic.

Since Australia began COVID-19 quarantine and isolation measures, the group saw an immediate need for scrubs for doctors and nurses.

With medical advice in mind, patterns and material were sourced to make scrub caps, tops, and pats and ‘care kits’ for medical staff.

Ranges Rescue founder Kate Nabarro said the group was quick to help.

“The group was all on-board and said if we can get some patterns together then lets start doing it,” she said.

“The Royal Melbourne hospital were in need, and if one hospital needs them what about the doctors surgeries, receptionists, all workers in that profession should have (scrubs) if they are going to stay open.

“We’ve had requests come in from all over.

“It means we can give these amazing people two or three spare scrubs so they are not having to wash every single night after a 14-hour shift.

“Doctors and nurses are already overwhelmed, overworked and drained – if we can be there to help in any way, we will.”

Requests from hospitals have flooded in from Horsham to Canberra for urgent garments to be made.

Eye masks and scrunchies are also being made to provide comfort to doctors have to sleep on site and are unable to go home to their families.

Ms Nabarro said the garments were a good way for children to be involved with parents sewing from home during while practising social distancing.

The group was founded in Riddells Creek during the summer bushfire crisis to make and donate pouches for animals in need but has since spread throughout the Macedon Ranges and across Victoria.
