Footy fanatics and drama lovers will get the best of both worlds at a new musical hitting theatres this month.
The Beautiful Game will debut at Chapel Off Chapel in Prahran on September 13 and tells the story of an Irish football team finding themselves and love in the midst of war.
Travancore’s Stephen Mahy, who plays the character John, said the musical was a one of a kind.
“There’s a very dark undercurrent of war and betrayal but there are some light-hearted comedy moments too,” he said.
“It’s not your typical musical, it’s not a fairytale but about a working class girl that believes in her community and her people.”

The 37-year-old, who has been acting for 12 years, said the hardest part of the show had been perfecting the tricky accent.
“It’s a big challenge learning a northern Irish accent and being a part of that world,” Mr Mahy said.
The actor said he hoped the audience would learn a valuable lesson from the show.
“Believe in who you are and stay true to yourself and stand up for what you believe in,” Mr Mahy said.
The Beautiful Game will run through until September 19 and tickets can be bought from $69.
