A suspected arson attack on a Kyneton home overnight could be linked to three suspicious car fires.
Police were called the home in Wedge St, Kyneton at 12.30am after an “incendiary device” was thrown through the window of a home.
One room in the house was burned and attempts were made to set fire to the garage, police say. No one was injured in the fire.
The fire comes less than two weeks after three cars were allegedly set alight around the corner in Mitchell St, Kyneton.
Macedon Ranges CIU Detective Sergeant Ivan Bobetic said he was “exploring links” between three suspicious car fires in the area between July 24 and July 25.
“We’re not ruling it out,” he said.
“We’re investigating things individually and seeing as to whether or not there’s a link to the fires in Mitchell St.”
Emergency services responded to the first car fire at 12.30am on July 24 in Mitchell St.
Brigades from Kyneton, Carlsruhe and Gisborne’s LP gas flareoff team were recalled to the street after reports a reports a second car was alight.
CFA LP gas specialist Lt Bevan Moody said local brigades had a long night.
“The first car we attended to had minimal amount of gas left in the cylinder so it was a matter of assessing the cylinder and ensuring it was safe,” he said.
Lt Moody said the second car was a different story.
“This time we were dealing with a cylinder that was half full,” he said.
“Access to the cylinder was quite restrictive and it took the team about 30 minutes just to hook up to the flare-off burner.
“Once we started burning off the gas it took just under 45 minutes to empty the contents.”
Lt Moody said firefighters spent about five hours on the site because of the two incidents.
Brigades were called to a third car fire just before 11pm on July 25.
Sgt Bobetic said police were treating both care fires as “suspicious and related”.
