John Fawkner Private Hospital is gearing up to help fight the deadly coronavirus.
The private hospital is one of many who have struck an agreement with the Victorian Government to help battle the virus and alleviate pressure from the public health sector if the need arises.
The Coburg hospital has 186 beds that are being primed and prepped for a possible further explosion of COVID-19 cases.
A hospital spokesman said the exact role the hospital would play in the pandemic was still unclear, but they were ready to do whatever was needed.
“(We) are now preparing and training our people to be ready to play their part in the state’s COVID-19 response,” he said.
“The team and the hospital will play whatever role is deemed necessary to help tackle the virus.”

This could include picking up public hospitals regular patients so they can focus on those affected by COVID-19, hosting COVID-19 patients themselves or a mixture of both.
The hospital could even send their nurses and doctors to work in other hospitals if required.
The hospital spokesman said while it was planning and working through its future role with the government, it would remain hard at work serving the community.
“John Fawkner’s Emergency Department continues to provide around-the-clock care for the local community, and the hospital is still delivering outstanding patient care as it has done for over 75 years,” he said.
