A Comanchero boss ran a criminal syndicate which trafficked MDMA and a dangerous designer drug sold as ecstasy, a court was told.

Anti-bikie police launched covert op ‘Echo-Maine 2018’ to snare Comanchero Victorian treasurer Domenic Luzza.

Echo Taskforce detectives bugged and installed spy cameras at multiple properties and vehicles including Luzza’s Docklands’ apartment.

The syndicate used false names and addresses and encrypted phone apps in an attempt to keep their clandestine operation hidden from police.

Police listened, via a device installed in Luzza’s apartment, while the Comanchero boss discussed drug business with foot soldier Lorenzo Carbone.

“Hey, do you want a job? But you can’t f**k me, bro,” Luzza said.

“What job?,” Carbone replied.

“Cause I’m gunna go overseas next week. You can do my stuff for me here,” Luzza said.

”Yeah, well, bro, how you gunna — how you gunna trust me — are ya?,” Carbone replied.

“Yeah, but, bro, you can’t f**k me. I’ll pay you good but …,” Luzza said.

“Bro, just pick up and drop off. I never even have to look in there as long as

it’s sealed, cuz,” Carbone replied.

“Yeah. That’s all you’ve got to do, pick it up — pick it up — drop off, that’s it,” Luzza said.

“Yeah. I’m in,” Carbone replied.

Investigators observed Carbone deliver fluordeschloroketamine to Luzza at his Docklands’ apartment on August 1, 2019.

Luzza was captured on spy cameras weighing and mixing the drugs before delivering the gear to an unknown third-party outside the apartment block.

Police also intercepted a Wickr conversation in which Carbone and Luzza discussed an MDMA deal on September 11, 2019.

Investigators also intercepted multiple conversations in which Luzza discuss his own “drug trafficking activities” with various other associates.

Carbone went to Luzza after he received a message from a customer who wanted ‘Blue Grenades’ (MDMA).

The customer offered to make Carbone “rich”.

Luzza dispatched Carbone to Craigieburn to pick up the ‘grenades’ later that evening.

A few days before the deal Luzza obtained 1kg of a substance he described to be ‘MD’.

Luzza arranged to hand over the substance to Carbone for “safekeeping”.

Luzza ordered Carbone to take the MD to his house and not “drive around” with it after he spotted police on the road.

“Jacks out bro …,” Luzza said.

“Take back to yours bro don’t drive around with it.”

Luzza also instructed Carbone to sell the drugs for $350 a bag.

“Just turn over quick bettee (sic),” Luzza said.

“C**ts will buy … Milky milky … I got more stoked too.”

Police seized 929.9 grams of eutylone (MD) and multiple mobile phones after raiding Carbone’s Hillside home on September 12.

Carbone, 32, fronted the County Court on Monday for a hail Mary bail application which was denied by Judge Trevor Wraight.

Carbone, who had pleaded guilty to trafficking a commercial quantity of drugs, had hoped for a couple of months out of prison to get his “affairs in order”.

The court heard Carbone faces a “significant” jail term after he was nabbed trafficking MDMA, eutylone — a dangerous designer drug marketed as ecstasy — and ketamine cousin fluorodeschloroketamine.

Carbone, Luzza and syndicate players Fawzi El-Cheikh, Koray Biricik, Richard De Luca and Ruslan Abdullayev are scheduled to front a joint plea hearing in February next year.

Investigators also established Biricik was responsible for the arson of a vehicle linked to man who owed a debt.

Luzza’s girlfriend Christina Bailey and associate Matthew Gray were dealt with at the Magistrates court.

Another syndicate player was deported to New Zealand.
