A DOG park, water-play area and path extensions are just some ideas which could come to fruition in Sunbury as part of a new State Government program.

Pick Your Project will offer grants of between $20,000 and $200,000. With applications closing on June 24, Sunbury Community Health will host a Pick My Project ideas cafe next Monday from 7pm to 8.30pm at Sunbury Community Health, Macedon St.

Sunbury Community Health’s building healthier communities manager Bernadette Hetherington said her organisation was keen to hear of big ideas.

“Pick My Project offers a chance for great community ideas to see the light of day, it’s the type of thing we are always trying to achieve, so there is the potential of some great outcomes,” she said.

“It would be great if people come along and pitch their concepts and, from there, we can then work on how we can help support the application.”

Ms Hetherington said she was aware of concepts including creating an Ashfield dog park, a Sunbury waterplay park and the extension of the Nook shared path.

Sunbury Community Health believes a welcome pack for new residents to the town could be a worthy project to pursue.

Pick Your Project ideas will be open for public voting, with the winning ideas announced in September.

The fund is worth $30 million across the state.

Any idea that improves the community and has the backing of a professional organisational partner such as a health service, local council or school or other registered organisation, will be considered. Land owner consent is also required.

Suburban Development Minister Lily D’Ambrosio said the funding package opened up ideas for projects which might struggle to align with other funding criteria and programs.

“Local communities can now imagine, submit and vote for the projects they want — and we’ll help make them happen,” she said.
