A former top-line Melbourne barber’s rising career has faded away after he was clipped for a sophisticated motorbike theft racket.

Matthew “Matty” Brincat, 28, pleaded guilty in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Monday to various drug and theft offences.

Brincat, of Sunbury, was pinched with drugs at Docklands.

Police spotted Brincat, who pleaded guilty to meth possession, passed out at Docklands in a Holden Commodore ute early on May 14, 2022.

Brincat told the police who woke him up that he had been “out partying the night before” and had “smoked a joint”.

Police searched Brincat and found meth stashed in his ciggie packet.

Brincat told police he was ‘having troubles’ in his life.

The court heard investigators also seized 13 grams of lethal party drug 1,4 butanediol stashed in a black bumbag found inside the Commodore.

Brincat told police he was “having troubles in my life” before he was charged and bailed.

However, Brincat lobbed on the police radar again after the fallen barber went on a mini crime spree through Docklands and Yarraville in March last year.

Brincat, who pleaded guilty to multiple motor theft charges, went on the prowl at Docklands with two other accused.

The court heard Brincat and his crew walked a motorbike to a stash spot before the crooks tailgated entry to a secure carpark.

A Brincat crony walked another bike out of the carpark and stashed it with the other motorcycle before the crew bailed from the area.

Next stop for Brincat and his accomplices was Yarraville where they nicked a grey box trailer.

Brincat and his crooked pals then returned to Docklands where they loaded the stolen $8000 Honda CBR100 and $15,000 Aprilia RSV4 bikes onto the trailer and scampered.

The criminal escapade was captured on CCTV.

Specialist police raided Brincat’s Sunbury home where they seized meth, a stolen learner’s permit and an Oakland Raiders jumper worn during the offending.

Brincat was arrested but made “no admissions” to the theft spree, the court was told.

The court heard Brincat had a clean record up until this offending but fell into criminality after the death of a close family member.

Brincat was once and up-and-coming sought after barber who worked at multiple barber shops including Sunbury’s now-closed Motown Barbers.

Brincat, who now works as a concreter, was handed a 12-month good behaviour bond without conviction and ordered to pay $1000 to the court fund.
