A house fire in Melbourne’s north managed to destroy the patio in the backyard on Tuesday morning before emergency services were alerted.
A dozen firefighters were called to Lorraine Cr in Jacana at 9.15am after a single call alerting them of “black smoke”.
A Fire Rescue Victoria spokeswoman said the fire crew arrived to find a fire in the backyard, with smoke impacting the structure.
Krystal Higgins, the neighbour who called triple-o, said she was taking her son to school when she saw the horrific scene.
“After seeing the black smoke, I ran to the house to make sure everyone was out and called emergency services. I know the neighbours,” she said.
Ms Higgins said another neighbour and a tradesman working on the street rushed to help.
“We went to the back of the house and saw the patio to be on fire and the brick wall to the house up in flames,” she said.
FRV spokeswoman said firefighters tamed the blaze quickly and declared it under control by 9.30am.
An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said paramedics attended the scenes, but no emergency treatment or transport was required.
