Disused building at Sunshine College on fire, in ‘suspicious’ circumstances

A building at a school in Melbourne’s west went up in flames overnight, in an incident police are calling “suspicious”.

A fire has ripped through an unused building at a school in Melbourne’s west.

Emergency services attended the Sunshine College Ardeer Campus on Glenalga Rd at 7.30pm on Saturday, after receiving multiple calls to 000.

A Fire Rescue Victoria representative said 38 firefighters attended the scene and were able to bring the blaze under control in just over half an hour.

“Access to the college grounds and to suitable water pressure made fire fighting operations difficult,” they said.

“However, the crews worked very hard to bring the fire under control.”

Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria crews were on the scene assisting.

A Victoria Police spokesperson said “the investigation is ongoing, but is being treated as suspicious”.

There were no reports of injury at the site.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or with information that could assist police with their inquiries is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Ambulance Victoria has been contacted for comment.
