Darryl Verbeek has been granted bail.

A Craigieburn concreter has allegedly been working a second “job” pushing drugs, with police having allegedly caught him driving around with stashes twice in six months.

Darryl Verbeek, 36, fronted Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court on Friday, facing charges including trafficking GHB, driving while suspended and breaching conditions of bail.

Verbeek was allegedly found with more than a litre of GHB among other drugs when police pulled him over due to his erratic driving on King St, Melbourne about 10.35am on August 23, 2020.

The court heard police believed he seemed drug-affected, and officers found five bottles of

GHB, cannabis, valium, various prescription medication, ice and $891 cash in his car.

Verbeek allegedly then admitted to the officer that he was selling the GHB to his friends.

He was on bail over the incident when police watched him drive into BP Epping in a car with a suspended registration about 3am on February 17, 2021.

The officers then allegedly found a 100g container of GHB under the car’s carpet, as well as ice, various prescription medication and cannabis.

The court heard Verbeek had also been caught driving suspended three times in September 2020 and breaching bail conditions.

It was heard Verbeek was a daily drug user who worked casually as a concreter and had two daughters not in his care.

Verbeek’s lawyer questioned the legality of the police searching his client’s car in February, and said the actual weights of the drugs had not been finalised.

The lawyer said Verbeek could live in Craigieburn with his mum if granted bail, and risked spending too long in jail waiting for the matters to resolve.

Magistrate Michael McNamara said the issue of delay meant he would grant Verbeek bail, with strict conditions, including a curfew.
