The player has experienced living with a heart condition first-hand, being diagnosed with a genetic condition that he shares with both his mother and sister.
Stephenson encouraged shoppers to purchase fresh strawberries from their local MarketPlace Fresh on Strawberry Day this Saturday, to support the fight against childhood heart disease.
“I actually count myself pretty lucky,” he said.
“After talking to my cardiologists, I’m able to continue playing the sport I love.
“I have to take medication three times a day, which is a small price to pay.
“I can only imagine what it’s like for any family, especially new parents with young babies who need to be in hospital over Christmas.”
HeartKids acting chief executive Rob Daly said the proceeds would go towards HeartKids programs.
“For many Melburnians, December is a time for celebrating … but for those living with congenital heart disease, it can be an incredibly difficult time.”
Maribyrnong shoppers can purchase strawberries from Highpoint MarketPlace Fresh on Saturday.
