RUBY Roseman-Gannon would be forgiven for never pursuing a career in cycling.
After crashing twice in her first session, it took some convincing from her dad to get her back on the track and almost 15 years later, she’s eyeing a top spot in the national championships.
Not even a broken collarbone in 2012 or a neuromuscular injury in 2015 could stop Ruby, 18, who spent the next six weeks on an indoor bike training for junior world selection.
The Brunswick cyclist made the junior world team the following year and took home two silver medals.
She’s now joined the senior ranks, training six days a week, and will compete in the Australian University Games in Brisbane this month.
Next she hopes to represent Australia at this year’s Oceania Track Championship.
“I just love cycling and training towards things and the injuries have a silver lining to push you further,” Ruby said.
“Coming out of high school last year and going to uni was a big change but this is a consistent thing I always have and I love that.
“I get so focused when I’m out there and don’t have a thought that crosses my mind. It’s a real adrenaline-filled experience.”
