A young thug who bashed one of the state’s top cops has once again been done for his violence — this time for assaulting a woman.

Isaiah Stephens, 24, pleaded guilty to unlawful assault, intentionally damaging property, and wilfully damaging property at Broadmeadows Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

In June this year, a then-homeless Stephens — who pleaded guilty to recklessly causing injury in 2020 after he and his brother Jay bashed former Victoria Police Assistant Commissioner Chris O’Neill on the grounds of the elite St Kevin’s school — got into anargument with the woman at her Flemington homebefore beginning a horrific night of abuse.

Stephens followed the woman into her bedroom sometime after midnight and started to punch her in the ribs before grabbingher by the hair and dragging her into the lounge room.

After he stopped, the woman returned to her bedroom and sent a message to her friend via Snapchat asking her to call the police.

Stephens followed her where he grabbed her throat and forced her against the wall, strangling her.

Stephens also strangled her into unconsciousness before again dragging her by the hair into the lounge room before grabbing a knife.

What happens when you are charged with a crime?

Magistrate Carolyn Burnside, on Monday while sentencing the 24-year-old, said his conduct was “serious”.

“You were impatient and struck this lady … you don't have an extended history but one that is reeking of drug(s) ... and homelessness,” she said.

The court heard Stephens had a rough childhood, and his father was in custody serving a “substantial” sentence.

“Your parents abused drugs,” Ms Burnside said.

“I don’t want you to be someone who is showing every single sign … of what happened with your parents.

“The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. This is your last opportunity to be back on a corrections order.

“Today is your birthday. You are 24 years old now and a youthful offender … you need to be able to control your temperament.”

Stephens was convicted and ordered to serve a 12 month community corrections order and undergo mental health treatment and men’s behaviour change program.
