A BRAYBROOK school will undergo a rebuild as the State Government has invested $7.4 million on its makeover as part of the 2018-19 Victorian Budget.

The new funding will see Dinjerra Primary School completely refurbished, with the construction of new administration and classroom buildings.

A new library is one of the planned highlights, in addition to modern classrooms.

The funding win is part of the State Government’s plan to invest more than $2.8 billion to improve classrooms, upgrade facilities and build new schools.

According to principal Graeme Smith, the funding would provide a much needed upgrade to school facilities, some of which had not been updated since the 1960s.

“It’s fantastic, it’s been a long time coming,” he said.

“Those buildings were on their last legs, so it will be good to have them replaced.”

Footscray state Labor MP Marsha Thomson announced the funding at the school yesterday.

“Once completed this rebuild will give local students access to a new-look library and modern classrooms in which to feel engaged, stimulated and encouraged to reach their potential,” Ms Thomson said.

The funding will see a builder appointed to start demolition of old buildings and sheds to make way for the new facilities.

Construction is expected to start in term 4.

Other Maribyrnong budget highlights included funding for Western Health to purchase a site for a new Footscray Hospital, $30 million to go towards Footscray Learning Precinct’s Seddon campus and $5 million to Footscray’s Whitten Oval.
