Principal Andrew Neal said it was with sadness he informed the school community but noted it was wonderful to see him return to teaching at the beginning of the year.

“Mr Hutcheson was an enormously talented language teacher who had taught widely in Australia, Japan and Indonesia,” Mr Neal said.

“He had a passion for the cultures of Indonesia and the promotion of a strong relationship between Australia and Indonesia.

“He faced a difficult course of treatment in a positive and pragmatic way, it was wonderful to see him back in action, doing the thing he loved — teaching for a short period at the beginning of the year.

“I spoke with Mr Hutcheson’s widow yesterday who commented that he spoke so highly of you, the students, at Bacchus Marsh Grammar.

“May we remember him with fondness.”

According to his LinkedIn profile, Mr Hutcheson taught in Victoria from 1973 after graduating from Monash University and was a Haileybury College alumni.

During his career he taught overseas in Jakarta at an international Korean school and as an English language instructor in Tokyo.
