A Campbellfield man accused of stabbing another man to death in broad daylight was captured on CCTV allegedly committing the murder, a court has heard.
Murat Siner, 58, fronted Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Friday where he pleaded not guilty to murder.
Mr Siner, who required the use of a Turkish interpreter, elected to bypass the committal process and have his matter sent directly to the Supreme Court.
It’s alleged Mr Siner was charged with murder following the death of 55-year-old Campbellfield man Mustafa Unver on October 3 last year.
Emergency services were called to Scammel St in Campbellfield about 1.30pm on Monday October 2 following reports Mr Unver was injured.
When police arrived, Mr Unver was found wounded and was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with life-threatening injuries to his upper body.
Mr Unver died from his injuries the following day.
Mr Siner, formerly of Campbellfield and Broadmeadows, was arrested at the scene.
Damien Hannan, for Mr Siner, made no submissions nor did he call for any evidence on behalf of his client at this stage of the proceeding.
Mr Hannan submitted the “alibi caution” did not apply but confirmed “mental impairment” has been raised in Mr Siner’s case.
The alibi point was echoed by the prosecution which submitted the alleged murder was “captured on CCTV”.
Magistrate Belinda Franjic ordered Mr Siner stand trial for murder.
Mr Siner, who did not apply for bail, will front the Supreme Court for a pre-trial hearing on September 11.
