A man has died in a public swimming pool in Melbourne’s northern suburbs, with staff frantically trying CPR to save him.

A man has died in a public swimming pool in Melbourne‘s northern suburbs over the weekend.

Police were called to Broadmeadows Aquatic and Leisure Centre on Saturday after a man was found unresponsive in the 50m pool at 11.35am.

A police spokesman said a report was being prepared for the coroner, and the death is not treated as suspicious.

Hume Council spokeswoman said the centre staff followed procedure in responding to the situation, including calling triple-0

“Staff immediately administered CPR to resuscitate the patron, but those efforts were unsuccessful,” she said.

“Paramedics and the Metropolitan Fire Brigade attended the scene following the emergency call, and the centre was subsequently closed to allow investigations to occur.”

The centre’s staff who witnessed the scene are receiving support through the council‘s Employee Assistance Program.
