POLICE are investigating a suspicious house fire that engulfed a West Footscray flat earlier this morning.
Emergency services were contacted by a neighbour who became aware of the fire in the Broad Street flat at 5.30am.

A man in his 50s was rescued by fire crews and taken to hospital with burn injuries.
The flat suffered extensive damage due to the fire, which is being treated as suspicious.
The fire was deemed under control after 35 minutes as 24 firefighters battled the blaze on site.
Maribyrnong Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fire.
An arson chemist is expected to examine the site later this morning to determine the exact cause.
