HELPING out your neighbours the old fashioned way has become possible again, thanks to the Heidelberg Good Karma Network.
Residents who need a helping hand with odd jobs can shout out to the new Facebook group and find somebody looking to spread some community spirit.
Administrator of the network Emma Read said the page is all about creating positivity and helping out others with a task at hand.
“People have used the page to get help with cleaning gutters, fixing appliances and child care,” Ms Read said.
“It’s a really good page for people who don’t have family support around to help.”
More peculiar posts have also included requests for help restoring antiques and teenagers seeking driving supervisors.
The page does not involve any trading or bartering and asks local residents to get involved simply to help spread the joy.
Ms Read said the network is particularly important these days, where many neighbours don’t even know one another.
“I think people feel isolated even though they live so close to each other and this is a way of bringing people together,” she said.
“Even if you work somewhere else, having a connection to your neighbours and where you live leads to happiness.”
The page was started at the end of July and already has close to 500 members from Heidelberg and nearby suburbs.
Ms Read hopes they can continue to expand the network and try to involve those who may not be as tech-savvy, such as the elderly.
