FORTY years on from the release of their seminal album Face to Face the Angels are taking their audience for a walk down memory lane.

The classic Adelaide rock band made its way into the hearts and minds of Australians in 1978 with hard hitting anthem Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again and its memorable expletive-ridden audience response.

Speaking on the back of the first leg of a national tour to celebrate the album, lead guitarist Rick Brewster said it is no mistake the song, and the band still has such a hold on audiences.

“That was something very intentional 40 years ago,” he said.

“We made a very conscious decision to write lyrics that meant something. The last thing we wanted was to be here today and gone tomorrow.”

Brewster said he had spent the first half of the year looking out across packed venues to see the lyrics the band so carefully crafted all those years ago sung back to him not only by his peers, but their children too.

“It’s very rewarding, especially seeing all of the young people who are fans,” he said.

“We just get on stage and have a great time, it’s a celebration.”

Brewster holds a comfortable spot in Australian rock ’n’ roll history, having been voted fifth in the top 50 Australian guitarists of all time by Australian Guitar Magazine.

As much as the band enjoyed performing their old hits, Brewster says audiences can expect new takes on many of the songs.

A new version of Take A Long Line was particularly special, he said and features an extended instrumental section in the middle and extra solo at the end.

“We will, of course, be playing it on the tour,” he said.
