BEREAVED parents Samantha Rowe and Paul Lyons from Heidelberg West are finding comfort in their grief by honouring lost babies through their social enterprise Memories of an Angel.
After losing six babies over a harrowing three years, Ms Rowe has channelled her heartache into helping others in the same difficult circumstance.
By creating special keepsakes the couple helps families remember their lost treasures through wristbands, jewellery and ribbons.
Ms Rowe said the idea came to her when she realised there were no products available in Australia for parents looking to honour their babies.
“If I was looking for these things I was sure other bereaved mums and dads were looking for them too,” she said.
Trinkets come specially tailored for mums, dads and general family members.
“Often dads are forgotten, but they can also feel broken and hurt,” Ms Rowe said.
Samantha and Paul’s positivity will bring a ray of hope to families during a special service at Mercy Hospital to mark International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day on October 15.
Ms Rowe will attending for her six lost babies through miscarriage or stillbirth, which include Cooper, Hudson, and identical twins Emma and Zoe.
She said the day is an opportunity for parents to remember their own child.
“Hearing your babies name read out and seeing it in print just warms your heart,” she said.
Ms Rowe said she is not giving up on starting a family.
“Our baby journey has been long and incredibly hard but we are still trying and hope we will get a happy ending.”
The special candle-lighting service will be held in the Mercy Hospital multifaith chapel at 2pm on October 15 and is open to all grieving parents.
People looking to support bereaved families can also sign up for November’s Pram Jam, which raises money for stillbirths and complications in premature babies.
