RINGWOOD’s clock tower memorial has been attacked by graffiti vandals, who have been called “the lowest of the low’’.
Four tags were drawn on one of the clock tower’s panels facing Wantirna Rd sometime between April 6 and April 8.
Maroondah Leader was alerted to incident by a reader on Sunday afternoon and the graffiti remained when the paper visited the memorial late on Sunday night.
Ringwood RSL sub-branch president David Jamison said he was disappointed by the attack and would contact Maroondah Council “straight away” over the incident.
“People who deface memorials to Australians that gave everything for the freedoms we now enjoy are the lowest of the low,” Mr Jamison said.
“They are unintelligent vandals that need to stop.”
Mr Jamison said the timing of the attack close to Anzac Day was also thoughtless.
“I struggle to think someone with that deficiency in intelligence would connect the two at this time,” he said.
“Some people just don’t understand the implications of what they’re doing.”
Ringwood sergeant Simon Waterhouse said police had no reports of the incident.
Maroondah Council have been contacted for comment.
