Predator sexually assaults disabled girl on Cheltenham street near Southland shopping centre

AN INTELLECTUALLY disabled teenage girl has been assaulted by a sexual predator in broad daylight as she walked along a Cheltenham street.
Police believe the creep knew the girl was 15 years old and that she had a disability before he touched her inappropriately.
The girl was walking along Chesterville Rd, near Southland shopping centre, about 12.40pm on June 24 when a man approached her, police said today.

“The man asked her age and the girl told him she was 15,” Moorabbin SOCIT detective Senior Constable Eric Forcey said.
“There was further conversation before the man put his arm around the girl, she tried to walk away but he continued to follow her and sexually assaulted her.
“It’s evident the man was made aware of the girl’s age and we are of the opinion he would have been aware the girl had an intellectual disability.”
Sen-Constable Forcey said the girl is doing well and is being supported by police and other agencies.
He said the man commented on the girl’s appearance before he assaulted her.
The pair were together for less than 1km as they walked along the road, with the predator leaving towards Nepean Highway.
Police believe the man was at the Pine St bus stop and are appealing to people who use that stop as the man may be known to them.
“Because it’s such a high use public area and the incident occurred in the middle of the day we think there’s a good chance someone may have seen something or may know who this guy is,” Sen-Constable Forcey said.
Detectives have released CCTV footage from a nearby building and a computer generated image of a man they believe can assist with the investigation.
The man is described as caucasian, aged between 30 and 40, unshaven, with short brown hair, wearing a baseball cap and dark clothing.
Sen-Constable Forcey said he also had scarring on his face.
