A minor accident caused a big fuss when a van transporting hazardous medical material rear-ended a car in Donvale.
A 25-year-old Craigieburn man failed to notice traffic slowing in Springvale Rd at 7.40am on February 25.
The van crashed into the back of a Land Rover being driven by a 57-year-old Warrandyte woman.
The van driver’s employer attended the scene, along with other medical experts, to advise firefighters on handling the material.
Police and paramedics also attended and both drivers were treated for minor injuries.
Nunawading highway patrol Sergeant Simon Webb said the road was closed for a number of hours following the incident.
There were no injuries and there was no damage to the environment. He said the courier was given a ticket for careless driving.

DONCASTER EAST
Police are still looking for two men (pictured above) after a burglary in Doncaster East last year. Two men got into Doncaster Rd apartment carpark about 7am on October 10. Two bicycles and a set of golf clubs were stolen. It is believed the men also broke into a vehicle, stealing items including a backpack and a wallet containing credit cards which have since been used to buy goods in Ringwood, Croydon, Bayswater and Scoresby. Police have released CCTV images of two men who they believe might be able to assist in their inquiries. The first man is described as southern European in appearance and obese. He was wearing a yellow high visibility jacket, black beanie, grey T-shirt, dark coloured pants and camel coloured work boots. The second man is described as caucasian with a medium build. He was wearing a black Hurley cap, a black jacket, black tracksuit pants with white stripes and hiking boots. Anyone with information is urged to phone Crime Stoppers.
LOWER TEMPLESTOWE
A cyclist is lucky to have escaped with only minor injuries after he was struck by a car in Lower Templestowe. A 41-year-old Lower Templestowe man was entering Thompsons Rd from Jeffrey St at 11.15am on February 25 when his Toyota Camry collided with the pushbike. The rider, a 30-year-old from Brunswick East, was treated at Box Hill Hospital for minor injuries. Sgt Webb said the cyclist was using the bike lane and the driver was given a ticket for failing to give way. “Drivers need to take extra care (at this time of year) because the warmer weather brings out more cyclists,” he said.
