Fresh from their triumphant set at the Splendour In The Grass festival last weekend, the band drew largely from last year’s ARIA-awarding album Go Farther In Lightness.
Frontman Dave Le’aupepe was at his swagger-filled best, beginning the set with a solo orchestral version of breakout hit Let Me Down Easy, and later delivering a haunting piano version of album track Persevere.
On a stage filled with more than 1200 roses, the band reworked more tracks with strings and horns including The Deepest Sighs, The Frankest Shadows and Don’t Let Your Spirit Wane, made all the more mesmerising by guitarist’s Joji Malani’s atmospherics.
The performance will be released as an audio download and streaming following its premiere on MTV Australia next month.
MTV Unplugged debuted in the US in the 1989 and over the years has featured intimate, stripped-back performances from the industry’s biggest names including Nirvana, Eric Clapton, Pearl Jam and Bruce Springsteen.

The series has been brought to Melbourne in a three-year deal between Visit Victoria and MTV Australia.
Tourism Minister John Eren said the partnership was “a natural fit to position our city as a music mecca”.
Mr Eren said four performances would be filmed each year and the artists for this year’s two remaining concerts would be confirmed shortly.
Gold Coast songstress Amy Shark, who entered the ARIA charts at No. 1 with her debut album Love Monster last week, will film the second concert at another invite-only show tonight.
MTV Unplugged Melbourne will premiere on MTV Australia on August 19 at 6pm.
