Croydon man charged after allegedly smashing a man in the head with a hammer at Eastland

A MAN has been charged with attempted murder after a hammer attack in a carpark at Eastland shopping centre.

A CROYDON man who allegedly hit another man in the head repeatedly with a hammer at Eastland has been charged with attempted murder.

Maroondah detective Acting Sergeant Paul Holland said the incident occurred in one of the shopping centre’s underground carparks on March 10 at 4pm.

Acting Sgt Holland said the man approached a 21-year-old male and his girlfriend as they made their way to their car.

He said the man then struck the male victim several times in the head with a hammer in “a targeted attack against the victim who is known by the offender”.

Acting Sgt Holland said the victim was rushed to The Alfred hospital with serious head injuries and is still receiving treatment.

Maroondah detectives arrested a 28-year-old man at a Croydon house on March 12.

Acting Sgt Holland said the man was remanded in custody and would face the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on June 5.
