Bruce Springsteen helps boost Feed Melbourne Appeal’s coffers

BRUCE Springsteen’s rallying calls to support the Feed Melbourne Appeal have helped raise tens of thousands of dollars for the cause at his AAMI Park concerts.

Big-hearted fans of The Boss laid down their money and played their part, chipping in to donate over the two nights and raising a total of $42,800.

All money raised will go to the 2017 Feed Melbourne Appeal to help suburban food charities rescue surplus food that would otherwise go to waste, and turn it into nutritious meals for people going hungry.

In a quiet moment during his sets — which included many of his timeless hits such as Glory Days, Born to Run and Dancing in the Dark — the rock legend spoke in support of the appeal.

“We’ve got some friends of ours here tonight, folks from the Feed Melbourne Appeal,” Springsteen told his fans.

“Every dollar raised goes towards helping people who are struggling to afford to eat. It supports your local soup kitchens and community food banks.

“Please give them a hand if you see them on your way out.”

This is the third time Springsteen and the E Street Band have supported the appeal, following their back-to-back Wrecking Ball and High Hopes tours in 2013 and 2014.

Since 2013 more than $100,000 has been raised for the appeal through the superstar’s concerts, and a further more than $240,000 thanks to his involvement.

The Feed Melbourne Appeal has raised more than $3.2 million since it was started by Leader and FareShare in 2009.

All of that money has been given to more than 140 charities across Melbourne, often using rescued, excess and donated food, to help disadvantaged people.
