A lawyer acting for a Wodonga man accused of murdering a “doting” father-of-four has told a court his client is “keen” for his case to progress.
Pleading not guilty to a single charge of murder in the lower court earlier this month, Benjamin Stiler, 25, on Thursday faced the Supreme Court for a directions hearing.
Stiler is charged with murdering 26-year-old Albury man Duwayne Johnson earlier this year.
Police have previously said Mr Johnson was shot outside a Wodonga house party in the early hours of January 16, before he was run over by a car.
Police found Mr Johnson fatally injured on Woodland St about 3am, with Stiler arrested in Melbourne five days later.
On Thursday the court was told the hand-up brief of evidence had been served, though the prosecution was still waiting for a report of DNA testing and possibly fingerprints.
Stiler has been in custody since his arrest on January 21 this year.
The case will return to court next month, when Stiler’s lawyers are expected to file an application to cross-examine 13 witnesses.
No trial date was set.
