Murat Balcioglu fronts court for subjecting woman to a horrifying ordeal

A vile thug stalked a woman from a northern suburbs railway station and raped and assaulted her during a horror eight-hour attack in her bedroom.

Murat Balcioglu raped and assaulted a woman he stalked from the Broadmeadows railway station to an eight-hour ordeal and only stopped after he could not longer comply with his demands.

A homeless man has been jailed for 12 years for repeatedly assaulting and raping a woman during a terrifying eight-hour attack after stalking her from a Melbourne railway station.

Murat Balcioglu subjected his victim to a sickening attack in Broadmeadows home on April 17, 2022 during which he forced her to perform oral sex on him and raped her in a bedroom.

He was 20 at the time and had been homeless for the past four years.

The court heard that earlier on the day of the offending, Balcioglu entered the victim’s house and asked her to perform oral sex on him but she refused.

He followed her to the Broadmeadows railway station less than an hour later and approached her but she asked him to leave her alone.

About 1.45pm, Balcioglu went back to her house and assaulted her from behind before forcing her into a bedroom and pushing a desk up against the door to prevent her from leaving.

Balcioglu then forced her to perform a sex act on and slapped and punched her face every time she stopped or said she didn’t want to do it.

He permitted her to lie down for about half an hour and she started dozing off. Balcioglu woke her up and said ‘you can’t leave, you can’t leave. No one knows you’re here. You’re my woman, you are a s---’.

He then pulled a small knife and told her ‘I am going to stab your calf muscle. I am going to stab you in the head and if you’re going to go to the cops, I am going to kill you’.

When Balcioglu left the house the victim fell asleep for a number of hours due to exhaustion.

About 4.30am on April 18, 2022 she walked to the Broadmeadows police station to report the matter.

Judge Chambers said Balcioglu’s violence ended when the victim could no longer comply with his demands due to her facial injuries.

“You raped your victim multiple times and in multiple ways. It was deplorably cruel and degrading conduct,” she said.

“This was shocking and egregious sexual violence offending for which you bear a high level of moral culpability. Mr Balcioglu, you can be in no doubt that your acts of sexual violence have profoundly impacted on almost every aspect of the victim’s life.”

Judge Chambers said Balcioglu showed little insight and no remorse for his offending and due to the gravity of his actions, the court would have less regard for his young age.

Judge Amanda Chambers ordered that Balcioglu serve seven years and six months before being eligible for parole.
