More than 10,000 expected to celebrate Diwali at Marvel Stadium

Thousands are expected to pack out Marvel Stadium as part of — one of the biggest Indian holidays of the year. Check back here for our coverage of the event.

Marvel Stadium will burst with colour and light this weekend, with more than 10,000 people predicted to attend the city’s annual Diwali celebrations.

Diwali — also known as the “festival of lights” — is the biggest holiday on the Indian calendar, with celebrations traditionally lasting five days and marking the start of the Indian new year.

The holiday celebrates a victory of light over darkness and good over evil, with people traditionally filling their homes with “diyas” or lanterns as well as observing large firework displays.

As it has done in previous years, Marvel Stadium will host a major event on Saturday filled with traditional dances and colourful performances.
