A Mildura construction site has been questioned over its failure to mitigate the risks of a fall, while seven others were issued with notices to improve electrical safety.

It comes after WorkSafe Victoria and SafeWork NSW inspected more than 40 building sites as part of a combined safety blitz across the Mildura and Buronga regions.

Across the 43 sites, inspectors identified more than 20 safety issues, including six employers that didn’t have key guidelines regarding silica dust safety.

The inspections were targeting exposure to the dust, which can cause permanent damage to the lungs when inhaled.

WorkSafe Victoria construction and earth resources director Matt Wielgosz reminded duty holders of the importance of proper safety preparation.

“Workplace safety is not something you can set and forget, it should be the first priority in each task to ensure every worker can get the job done safely,” he said.

The operation was part of ongoing efforts to highlight workplace safety across the Victoria NSW border region.
