A Mildura farm worker threatened to stab his neighbour because he owed him $20, a court has heard.

William Anderson, 54, pleaded guilty to unlawful assault at Mildura Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

A police prosecutor said Anderson was living in a cabin at Nangiloc caravan park on May 23 when a neighbour, who owed him money, returned with a friend after work.

The court heard Anderson had been drinking and confronted the neighbour over the $20, asking: “Where is my money?”

He was agitated and swearing.

The neighbour tried to reason with him and offered to pay the $20.

But the court heard Anderson was still furious.

“I’m going to stab someone, I’m going to slice them,” he said.

The neighbour and his mate left and police attended.

Anderson’s lawyer said he had moved to Mildura from Queensland in February of this year and had been involved in farm work.

The lawyer said Anderson had a brain tumour and the caravan park encounter was an “unfortunate incident in which alcohol was involved”.

Anderson was fined $1000.
