An Irymple woman allegedly bashed a 76-year-old man with a metal pole following a dispute over money, a court has heard
Mildura Magistrates’ Court was told Tammy Slater, 47, produced a metal pole during the alleged assault and began hitting the man’s knees.
Ms Slater’s co-accused was allegedly beating the man over the head with his own walking stick simultaneously.
Police detailed how Ms Slater and her co-accused allegedly gagged the septuagenarian to prevent him from calling out for help during the ordeal.
Following the alleged brutal beating, the court heard that the pair allegedly robbed the man’s house, making off with a bizarre bounty, including his walking stick, TV remote control, and coins along with his mobile phone and wallet.
The court heard the alleged victim sustained bruising and cuts to various parts of his body.
The man allegedly told his neighbour he was too scared to involve police.
Ms Slater and her co-accused were arrested the following day, with Ms Slater having the victim’s missing coins in her possession, along with some cannabis.
A police search of Ms Slater’s house allegedly uncovered the man’s walking stick, medication, TV remote, mobile phone and driver’s licence. They also discovered clothing used in the alleged assault and armed robbery.
Ms Slater was denied bail by Magistrate Michael Coghlan, who commented, “why would you want to steal his walking stick?”
Ms Slater’s next court appearance is slated for July 17.
