A body has been found in northern Victoria after a rural home was gutted by fire overnight.

Emergency services were called to a property in Red Cliffs about 2am on Thursday morning, working to bring the blaze under control.

At the scene, investigators discovered the remains of a yet-to-be identified occupant and have established a crime scene.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said police were called to the rural property after the grim discovery and detectives from Mildura were travelling to the scene.

“Sadly, a body has been found inside the burnt-out home and is yet to be formally identified,” she said.

“It is expected an arson chemist and fire investigators will attend the scene this morning.”
